Description
Any set of singular third-person pronouns used in place of a language’s traditional third-person pronouns (for English: “she”, “he”, and “they”). Some examples for English include: xe/xem/xyr, ze/hir/hirs, and ey/em/eir.
Neopronouns can be used by anyone, though they are most commonly used by transgender, non-binary, and gender noncomforming people. Some people prefer using neopronouns as an alternative gender neutral pronoun set. This could be because they want to avoid singular “they” being confused with plural “they”, because neopronouns express something about them or their gender, or because they feel more comfortable using neopronouns over any of the standard pronoun options.
Note: don’t panic over pronunciation! While there are common ways to pronounce these pronouns, there are plenty of variations out there.
